UnSound

2024
UnSound is a sound sculpture installation exploring embodiment, space, and sound. Three sound-emitting busts composed of sound-conductive materials like kaolin clay and quartz emit a unique composition of manipulated hearing test tones that, played together, overlap in fluid, shifting ways. The piece reflects my evolving relationship with sound and challenges the “sound”-ness of physical structures as stable and solid. Sound disrupts a stable perception of matter; it is a force that travels within, through, and across bodies, forms, voids, and space, unsettling perceived corporeal and material boundaries. UnSound highlights the interconnectedness of sonic experience. Activated by sound, everything feels interrelated, dislodging fixed experiences of space and self.
